Thoughts on whether or not Autotune has become youtubebiquitous, Carl Sagan?

Ohhhhh kay.

To me, this is the sign we were waiting for that autotuning things that are not music has reached critical mass. Thank you Gregory Bros, thank you legion of multitrackers that can’t actually sing, and thank you T-Pain. It has been a wonderful year, but now, I think we can put this on the shelf and break it out again over Christmas 2015 with a sense of warm nostalgia. Either that or this is, like everyone has feared/speculated on, the next generation of music. All music will be increasingly esoteric and abstract forms of autotuned layered nonsense.

Well, at least it’s not trance.

Though, I have to say, this is a cut above the Autotune the News productions. There’s some real thought that went into this, and they did autotune Stephen Hawking, a man who’s only voice is ALREADY DIGITAL. Redigitizing the already artificial, even further dehumanizing it? I’m pretty sure Shirow Masamune is telling you right now that he told you so.

Patrick Wolf – “Hard Times” Video: Too many kinds of awesome?

Ok I have always loved Patrick Wolf.  His fourth album, The Bachelor came out back in June, but I somehow missed this video.  I think Americans will be quick to judge – calling him some sort of male Lady Gaga.  But the truth is: Mr. Wolf has been a wandering couture psychopath for quite sometime.  So back the fuck off.  Watch the video in all it’s sexual ambiguity and neon wonderfulness.  Or maybe I’ll end up hating this in a few minutes.  Regardless, getting dumped occasionally spawns great albums.  This is proof.

FUCKING AWESOME: SUNNY DAY REAL ESTATE ON FALLON

Oldies but Goodies: Crazy Indian Video

i love this video. an internet classic. i’m sensing a theme for the day.

Daft Punk is doing the theme for TRON. Duh.

This is the theme for Tron: Legacy. That movie with the awesome ass motorcycles and ruthless exploitation of 80s nostalgia. No, not Star Trek. Tron. Yeah, Tron.

MUSIC VIDEOS: THE OSMONDS – CRAZY HORSE

“Crazy Horse” is probably one of the worst songs I’ve ever heard.  Maybe you have to be Mormon to appreciate the Osmonds, but jesus fucking christ this is terrible.  I’m trying to find the video of this song from ther 2008 reunion show on PBS.  The AARP Osmonds have zero stage presence, even keytar playin’ Osmond can’t liven it up with SPARKS SHOOTING OUT OF HIS KEYTAR.  Nevertheless, behold the ridiculous dance moves, synth horse noises, and horrible outfits. On a side note, this is the best selling Osmonds record of all time.

MUSIC VIDEO: SHAI HULUD – MISANTHROPY PURE

Misanthropy Pure is shaping to be one of the best hardcore records released in a long LONG time.  New vocalist Matt Ian Mazzali is a juiced up version of Jamey Jasta, with a scream thats mildly melodic and epic as all hell.  How he manages to wail over ever single stuttering pnumatic riff is beyond me.  The album’s title track is easily the most accessible track on the album and I mean that in a good way.  While so much heavy music is mindless chugging these days, Shai Hulud seem to switch up time signatures and styles (mind you I mean styles within the genre) so easily it’s scary.  Add in the catchy soaring guitar melodies and you have an anthemic barn burner of an album.  Check out the simple yet powerful video below.  Directed by the one and only David Broadsky.
